Wood Wool Acoustic Panels vs. Other Sound Absorbing Materials

Wood Wool Acoustic Panels vs. Other Sound Absorbing Materials

Common indoor absorbers each have a niche. Polyester (PET) decorative boards are light and colourful, but less impact- and heat-resistant, usually rated B1. Wood wool boards win on impact resistance, fire rating (up to A2/B1) and durability, suiting crowded halls.

Mineral wool and glass wool are highly efficient but need facing or cladding; bare fibres shed dust and itch in public spaces, and moisture must be managed. Wood wool boards are finished panels ready for direct exposure, making installation and maintenance simpler.

Perforated gypsum or FC boards share the hard-finish category: they rely on porous material behind the holes and handle low frequencies well, but look cooler. Slat-wood boards look timber-like, yet are usually fibreboard-based and generally trail inorganic cement-bonded wood wool on formaldehyde and fire performance.

On cost, wood wool boards cost a little more than PET, but fire, moisture and impact resistance lower long-term maintenance; service life can exceed 15 years. Choose by balancing acoustic targets, fire-zone requirements, budget and interior style.
